That's my hair. One of the great defining elements of my "me"-ness. Also a great bane during primary and high school, and again aggravating me in the heat, dust and energy of work.
I'm posting about my hair, as well as my and other peoples' relationship with MY hair, over at Segullah. Before it all gets cut off next week! (*WHOOT WHOOT!*)
One story that got cut from my Segullah post:
1996 - I was nineteen, and in my second year of being in the Royal Australian Navy. My hair had survived the cluttered crows nest of a handful of bobby pins keeping in the required bun the year before, and was finally easy to twist and neatly pin in the now familiar spot just below where my uniform hat would sit. Then, one day in my room I decided to cut my hair. Myself. Immediately. My dear friend Taylor strongly counselled me against it, but - like the stubborn idiot I so often am - I didn't want to wait.
Halfway through the carnage, a knock on my door announced I had a phone-call a flight of stairs and a corridor away in my division. Down I ran, straight through the common room - where all conversation stopped dead. I can't even remember who rang me, but as I made my way back, there was still no noise from the well populated room. I can dimly remember the Division Captain asking me something in a very understated fashion about my appearance ("Going for a new look, Miss Me?" maybe, or a comment about losing the fight to a lawnmower) but regardless, I had my friends help with evening out my hack job, and I'm pretty sure Taylor came with me to the hairdresser to fix the chaos the next payday.
You can't buy friends like that!
And friends have been giving me ideas for my new cut. My favourite styles at the moment (and have been for about three weeks now):
and
as well as
The main points being I can't stand hair on my neck (I know, insane, why have I grown my hair long again?!??) but like the option of dressing the look up or down with the length at the front. Which is then balanced with needing the length to be able to be pulled back so I can see clearly at work. So, no easy task in finding a decent cut then...
A style which also has to make sure my enormous head (really) doesn't look like the huge Sputnik that it is. Also, not being as waif-like and perfectly throated as the above models, not making me look like a Bobble-head.
One more week to go - this time next Thursday it'll be done!

I'd love red hair, and think about doing Henna, but I have enough white hair that it wouldn't quite work.
Whatever the style you end up with, please don't donate to Locks of Love... http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/06/fashion/06locks.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0
You may be able to sell it though...
